Persolus [Male Marowak]: Persolus was befriended and captured by Hua Ping during his vacation to Alola when he was eleven. Much like his trainer, Persolus tries to act seriously, but ultimately makes too many mistakes to be taken seriously. Mistakes such as striking himself or his own trainer with his attacks have earned him his more commonly known name to the public, Failowak. Despite their shortcomings, Hua Ping and Persolus each consider themselves to be partners for the perfect team.

Hua Ping stands at five feet and nine inches tall and weighs around hundred sixty six pounds with a slim build. His light brown hair is shaggy and falls down to the back of his neck, but fortunately, stays out of his brown eyes. His skin is fair and his muscles on his arms and legs are honed from his experience as an archer. He wears an eyepatch over his right eye to enhance his night vision, and at times, will also wear a pair of goggles over both his eye and the patch.
For clothing, Hua Ping is usually seen wearing a brown leather shirt, gray trousers, and a pair of metal boots. At times, he may also be seen with a cape draped over his shoulders with a green exterior and a brown interior design. At his hip, behind his back, is a large quiver of arrows. Usually holstered across his back is a large compound bow, designating him as an archer.

Although he always attempts not to be one, Hua Ping is a fool at heart. He often makes mistakes to the point where it is hard to determine whether they are unintentional or if he is failing on purpose. Despite being prone to failure, he is quick to assume that he is successful and can get the job done. He is overconfident in his own abilities, but granted, some confidence may be just what he needs to overcome his mistakes.
Rather than coming up with a long term objective, Hua Ping is impulsive and acts on instinct. He tries his best to make friends despite obvious social flaws, such as being honest to a fault or lacking a sense of humor. He tries his best to hide that he is a fool when first making friends, afraid that he would drive away people before they got to know him. Once he does succeed in making friends, he is not afraid of being himself, figuring that the best way to get people to smile or laugh is by making a fool of himself.
Hua Ping was born in Cerulean City to Bao and Lian Ping. His father worked as a teacher in the Trainer School in Pewter City and his mother assisted as a nurse at the Pokémon Center. Growing up, Hua Ping began to idolize his brother, Park, who was five years older than him. When starting out as a trainer, Park showed that he was accomplished and skilled battler. It was then that he decided that he should strive to be successful just like his brother.
When Hua Ping was eleven, his family, now including his younger sister, Xian, took a vacation to Akala Island. He was interested in participating in the island trials, thinking that he could be just like his brother. When it came to his team, he adopted a Cubone, who unknown to him, was kicked out of Wela Volcano Park for being a poor fighter. This showed up when Hua Ping attempted to battle trainers that stood between him and a trial. Time and time again, they were defeated. When it came time to return home, Hua Ping took the Cubone with him, deeming him Persolus.
With his first Pokémon, Hua Ping sought out to be successful, just like his brother. He tried his hand at the league, but as a repeat of his short vacation to Alola, never made much progress. Seeing that he failed as a competitive trainer, he decided to try something that did not rely on battling. By the time he was sixteen, Hua Ping gathered enough money to travel to and compete in his first Pokémon Contest. However, in the first round, Persolus' bone went out of control, knocking both his trainer and judge out. As the event was televised, Persolus, now a Marowak, became quickly known as Failowak.
After his latest defeat, Hua Ping decided it would be best to focus on finding out what he was good at. After various trial and error experiments, he discovered that he made for an excellent archer. As long as he can keep his eye focused on a target, he can never miss. He built his new identity about being an archer, taking up an ornate build and discarding mainstream clothing for a more ranger look.
Recently, Hua Ping has accepted that he is a fool, but figured that he could use this to his advantage. He thought that the best way to keep friends was to give them something to laugh at, although making friends would be a different problem. For now, Hua Ping tries his best to repress his foolish nature when meeting someone and travels the world as an archer and freelance journalist. He decided that the best way to survive these dark times would be to find the friends that will keep him safe, despite the mistakes he will make.

When he made his first correct shot, he looked in awe as his shot reached its target. Figuring that this may be the path to success, he studied up on archery, becoming an above average archer even without his semblance.

Trueshot: Hua Ping's semblance, Trueshot, is what makes him stand out from an average archer. His aura expands out into a zone, in which, his arrows will glide towards the target. As long as it remains in that zone and he keeps his eyes concentrated on his target, the arrow will aim towards the target. Once the arrow leaves the zone or Hua Ping breaks concentration, the arrow will fly normally towards the last angle it was directed at.
