Portent can not be in her Poké Ball without the girl becoming despondent. When the Pokémon is by her side, though, Shia's intellect and abilities increase vastly, rebuffed by Portent's own knowledge base and skills. Beyond that, Portent is the calm of the world for Shia, emanating the same cool exterior that the girl does. Portent was given to Shia shortly before they moved to Nimbasa City.

Karel [Porygon2] — Well aren't you precious?
Porchased as a Porygon, Karel is a project of Shia's, and she has made many modifications to the Pokémon, to the point it has now evolved to a Porygon2. The Pokémon is analytical and desperate to please, such that it will often download a new app or program to show off to Shia, much to the girls chagrin. Often these programs lead the creature filled with viruses and spam, such that the girl has to spend her time repairing the files that get corrupted.

Astraea [Female Shiny Leafeon] — Cherish your friends, no matter how small.
Astraea is the sibling of Marida's Kaida. A studios battler, Astraea is Shia's best fighter and best tactician. Astraea has none of the mental trauma that some of the other girl's Pokémon have, having weathered it like a storm. It was Shia, Purutu, and Elpeo playing with Astrae in the Cruz Estate gardens that drove Marida to spirit them all away. The Pokémon is collected and analytical in its approach to life, never seeming to find a scenario that it can't think its way out of.

Cynthia Shirona went as far to say that, when she got older, she might just be in the running to take over the self-same league. But this wasn't good enough for the cold-hearted woman Shia called mother and Nordia continued to look for ways to push Shia and her younger sister Aila to excel.

Shia's mother eventually remarried when Shia was was fifteen. Nordia Jyrkiäinen of Snowpoint City, the mother of Shia Jyrkiäinen and Aila Jyrkiäinen, joined their family with the Cruz family. Nordia saw the merger as a shrewd business move, as did Jaeygen Cruz. Not only did this bring her girls under the umbrella of Glemy Toto's New-Type training regime, but Aila was still young enough for the Cruz's pioneered New-Type training process to take root. Without any further hesitation, a second generation of New-Type began their schooling and Aila was on route to becoming just as ruthless in Pokémon strategy as her new sister Marida...

Aila was quickly shut away from Shia. Shia herself was forced to begin testing herself against the Unova League and the Alola League. She barely saw her sister at this point, but she secretly began to work against the system that bound her blood-sister and new stepsister, looking for a way to remove them from their collected parents' clutches. Nevertheless, Aila was adopted into the New-Type Project offices in Castelia City, and there was little Shia could do except offer support on her visits back home in Nimbasa City.

But after five years of trauma at the hands of Glemy Toto, her stepfather, and her mother, the family received word by the way of a death certificate that Amaria Cruz had passed away. Having stayed in hiding all these long years, Amaria had given birth to Jaeygen's last children, the twins Elpeo and Purutu. Raising them in secrecy in Kalos, the woman's surprise death left Jaeygen their only relative and, thus, their guardian. Something in Marida snapped that day, when the eight year old girls showed up, confused by their surroundings and suddenly thrust into the same life style she had secretly come to despise.

Abhorring the thought of a third generation of New-Type, Marida lashed out shortly after the girls were brought to Nimbasa and Purutu was chosen to be the next to join them at Castelia's facility. Organizing an exodus with her stepsister, Marida's chilling rage and Aila's keen battle tactics were directed at the scientists and teachers surrounding them. Though unintentional, Jeagen suffered a heart attack as Marida and her Pokémon rampaged from Castelia to the Cruz Estate, and Nordia and Glemy only barely escaped with their lives. Marida and Shia then together spirited away the rest of their family, the five sisters together disappearing into the night.

Presently, the girls live in the outskirts of Lumiose City, Kalos. Though their shared trauma of harsh parents and relatives has left them all shocked and scarred, they have made a fresh start for themselves in the same cottage Amaria owned in Kalos.
