Pokédex Entry: An elusive Pokémon, it is said to inhabit the deepest part of the forest. It is often seen guiding lost children back home.

A small, fox-like creature, Welpyre is orange in color with a petite form. Their legs are small and stubby, barely extending beyond their body. By far their largest feature is their massive ears, which turn and adjust near constantly to catch the sound around them. Their eyes are most often closed, giving them a kitsune-like appearance and they sit over the top of cream colored cheeks devoid of any whisker. A small, brush-like tail, juts from their end. It is smaller than most other Canidae Pokémon, leaving it looking less fearsome than the likes of Houndour in the eyes of most. Shiny Welpyre are white in color.

Etymology: Welpyre is a combination of the words whelp, fire and pyre.
Gender Differences: None.
Special Abilities: Superb hearing, it is said they can hear the heartbeat of a Buneary or Pikachu a number of feet underground. They also possess very fine control over the flames they use as their attacks, often making small globes of fire people liken to spirits that bob around in the night.
Behavior: Mischievous to a fault, Welpyre are pranksters that often run in packs about the outskirts of settlements and play tricks on unwary passerby's and residents. Unlike many canids, Welpyre are not always pack animals. Typically, they live in small family groups, but some are known to be solitary. While not strictly reclusive, their nature makes them slight wary of humans when approached outside of their pranks, and they often run away when would-be capturers hunt them. When befriended, they are quick to attach themselves to a single person and will devote all their love to that individual.
Habitat: Deep forests, typically in the eastern hemisphere. They are likened to the kitsune myths in regions like Kanto and Johto, where they are most commonly found. Overall, they prefer forest and mountain habitats.
Diet: Their diet is largely made up of invertebrates such as insects, and small vertebrates such as reptiles and birds, and also can include eggs and plants. Many species are generalist predators. Keenine cache excess food, burying it for later consumption, usually under leaves, snow, or soil.
