Pokédex Entry: Living only in untouched mountain aeries, Gryffa are a reclusive Pokémon. They take unkindly to liars, attacking humans and Pokémon equally, possessing strange knowledge of when someone is speaking false.

A small bipedal creature, Gryffa stands about child height. They are covered in downy feathers and one might expect because of this that they are Flying-type, though they're not, primarily because they have little in the way of wings. Brown in color, their orange forearms are home to a small fringe of feathers, perhaps wings in ancient times. Their head faces forward, like that of a predator, and is black in color to match their feet. A curved beak of a bird of prey forms their snout and a rough fringe of feathers crests the back of their head. Lastly, a long orange and black tail provides them balance.

Etymology: Gryffa is an alteration of the word griffin.

Special Abilities: Inherent knowledge of when someone is lying. Theories suggest that falsities fire off synapses in Gryffa's brainwaves. Gryffa also have vision that is well adapted to detecting underwater objects from the afar.

Behavior: Valiant and bold, Gryffa are sturdy creatures that seek out wrong doing in their small flocks and weed it out justly. They abhor dishonest in any race and seemingly possess an unidentified ability or organ that allows them to know when someone has told a lie. A flocking creature, they are surprisingly intuitive for a species, making nests and shelters from spangly trees and branches and living in family groups and communities. Like some other birds, they mate for life. Finally, Gryffa are reclusive, and while they will not run from battle, they do actively avoid humans.

Habitat: Gryffa prefer coastlines and scrubby outcroppings near to them. They build their nests from driftwood and other found objects that wash ashore. They have a very limited range, having been hunted in ancient times for their feathers, and as such are only found in remote coastal locations in the Albania, Greece and Turkey Regions.

Diet: Fish make up majority of Gryffa's diet. Gryffa is particularly well adapted to this diet, with reversible outer toes, sharp spicules on the underside of the toes' closable nostrils to keep out water during dives, and backwards-facing scales on the talons which act as barbs to help hold its catch. Occasionally, Gryffa may prey on rodents, rabbits, hares, amphibians, other birds, and small reptiles.
