Pokédex Entry: A fast bird Pokémon of the savannah, they can knock out anything with a swift kick from their feet. People have used the plumes of this Pokémon for decoration for centuries.

One of the tallest species of bird Pokémon, Osstrike stand taller than the average human. They are black in color with pink limbs and a pink throat. Their feathers are highly prized, each plume of their tail nearly as long as a human's forearm. Though they're a flightless bird, they are still equipped with large wings with white tipped plumes. Their legs are slender, though very muscular, and their feet have tough, slightly darker pink skin and large blunted talons. Their head sits atop a slender neck and its equipped with a small, shovel shaped beak.

Etymology: Osstrike is a combination of the words ostrich and strike.
Gender Differences: None.
Special Abilities: Osstrike are very fast sprinters, capable of amazingly fast bursts of speed. Their main means of defense are their feet and their beak, and they can hit things with such force with their legs that they can easily break bones or pummel a predator to death. Their beak and neck allow for swift, successive prodding, allowing them to peck an individual rapidly. With their acute eyesight and hearing, Osstrike can sense predators such as Pyroar from far away.
Behavior: Osstrike normally spend the winter months in pairs or alone. Only a small percent of Osstrike sightings are of more than two birds. During breeding season and sometimes during extreme rainless periods osstrike live in nomadic groups of five to a hundred birds, led by a top hen, that often travel together with other grazing animals, such as Zebstrika or Ponyta. Osstrike are diurnal, but may be active on moonlit nights. They are most active early and late in the day.
Habitat: Osstrike formerly occupied most of the African Region and even some of the Asian Region. Today Osstrike prefer open land and are native to the savannas and Sahel of Africa, both north and south of the equatorial forest zone. In southwest Africa they inhabit the semi-desert or true desert. Farmed Osstrike in Australia, Israel and Orre have established feral populations. The Arabian Osstrike, a unique coloration of the species, were hunted to extinction by the middle of the 20th century.
Diet: They mainly feed on seeds, shrubs, grass, fruit and flowers; occasionally they also eat insects. Lacking teeth, they swallow pebbles that act as gastroliths to grind food in the gizzard. When eating, they will fill their gullet with food, which is in turn passed down their esophagus in the form of a ball called a bolus. After passing through the neck, the food enters the gizzard and is worked on by the aforementioned pebbles.
