Pokédex Entry: A rare Pokémon that only evolves after its younger form has reached peak physical condition. They dive bomb their enemies from atop high perches, striking with their mace-like tails.
Looking for all the world like the typical western dragon, Aerifite are a standard green color with a lighter belly. They have small spikes running down their spine and one larger red one that is jagged and somewhat flexible over the base of their tail. Their tail itself is a formidable looking weapon, ended in a red and green mace-like or morning star appendage. Limb-wise, their hind legs are bulkier than their forelegs, but both are equipped with a decent set of claws. Atop their head, the red horn they once had as a Frisoris has evolved into a flat plate to protect their skull and provide a bashing weapon, while their antennae have turned into a kind of feather fringe. Lastly, Aerifite bears two broad wings, giving them a remarkable wingspan. These appendages are peach in color with yellow markings.
Etymology: Aerifite is a combination of the words aerial and fight.
Gender Differences: None.
Special Abilities: The penchant for headbutting things as their un-evolved forms has given them a heavy helmet-like plate on their forehead to further this endeavor. They are capable of lifting many times their own weight relative to their size, which often shocks many people due to their physiology. Lastly, their tail is specifically equipped to aid them in dive bombing foes and targets as they fly in at high speed, allowing them to strike with the heavy implement on its end.
Behavior: Solitary Pokémon, they are not called the Bellicose Pokémon for any small reason. They, like Frisoris, will seek battle and attack with abandon. That is not to say that they are vicious, just that they are competent fighters in their own right. The popular belief that they fueled the classical ideas of western dragons is not far off. Aerifite vary nearly as much as humans, with some being benevolent and some being downright mean. They patrol large swathes of land and defend their territory from others of their own species adamantly. Similar to some kinds of Murkrow, they favor shiny objects, especially precious metals and most especially gold, and will often form large hordes of the stuff in their dens, sometimes even favoring to horde nests of metallic Pokémon like Cupra and Argalis. They embody everything about the traditional western dragon and are often found in the legends of the world, a prime example being Saint George and the Dragon. Some believe that one particularly nasty Aerifite that was red in color was the inspiration for Tolkien's Smaug.
Habitat: They claim unreachable mountain tops in the northern hemisphere in the western world. Preferring to fly to high altitudes and carve themselves new caves into the rocks, they will find places they are sure no human or Pokémon alike could reach and smash the rocks with their mace-like tails. Throughout their long lives, they will dig new tunnels and caves as they expand their hoards.
Diet: Though capable of digesting vegetation and being omnivorous, Aerifte prefer meat and a carnivorous diet. They hunt from high distances and divebomb their kills, striking with their tails and claws. They will prey on any creature smaller than themselves but prefer mountain sheep and deer.
